Calhoun Lower School students and faculty announced the launch of a new program called Cooper's Troopers Day of Service, to honor the memory of a beloved classmate, Cooper Stock, who died earlier this year in a tragic car accident at 97th Street.
In this inaugural year, Cooper's Troopers is helping build a children’s library for West End Residences, a nearby homeless shelter where our older students have had a long-standing relationship as volunteers, working with the young children in the daycare center. The library will serve children from infancy through fourth grade.
Cooper's Troopers launched the library project with a BOOK DRIVE for the library on May 8, which coincided with the school's Annual Book Fair at Barnes & Noble 82nd Street. Friends, neighbors and school community members were encouraged to purchase and drop off their donations on that day. Ultimately, the school collected donations of more than 1,600 new children's books for the library, with more coming in every day!
