Upper West Siders Turn Grief into Action on Inaugural Ride for Vision Zero

In January of this year, 9-year-old Cooper Stock — known for his boundless energy, budding wit and a near-fanatical love of the New York Knicks — was struck and killed while crossing an Upper West Side intersection, hand-in-hand with his father. This September, his friends and neighbors are taking to streets to honor the memory of Cooper Stock — and to show their support for safe streets.
Lyn Paul, a friend and neighbor of Stock’s family, saw a special opportunity when she heard about the NYC Century Bike Tour’s first-ever Ride for Vision Zero, which invites participants to ride – and raise funds – in support of Transportation Alternatives’ work toward the city’s initiative to eliminate traffic fatalities and serious injuries.
“My husband and I decided that riding would be fun, but also could be especially meaningful and healing if we did it specifically to honor Cooper,” she said.
